A platform to know more about Local Businesses in Italy
The Idea
As I was exploring Google Maps, I realized that while it provides a wealth of information about local businesses, it’s not aggregated in a way that allows for easy analysis. I thought to myself:
What if I could create a tool that helps with this kind of analysis?
This idea was sparked by a friend who asked me if I knew of a way to get a list of all opticians in Italy to decide where to open a new store. I also needed a list of email addresses of opticians to promote a course about crafting eyewear.
What is Imprese-locali.it
After months of development in my spare time, I’m excited to introduce Imprese-locali.it, a web app that allows users to select from a list of categories (e.g. Insurance Agency, Bar, Car Repair Shop, etc.) and view all local businesses in that category in Italy on an interactive map. You can also view their data in a list format.
Statistics Page
But that’s not all. The statistics page provides an overview of the aggregated data, including:
- Total number of businesses in each category
- Number of businesses with available phone numbers
- Number of businesses with available websites
- Number of businesses with available email addresses
- Number of businesses with available P.IVA (VAT number)
Dataset Sale
While the website is free to use, I offer the full dataset in CSV format for sale to those who want to take their analysis to the next level. This dataset includes:
- Business name
- Phone number
- Category
- Address
- City
- Coordinates (Lat, Lon)
- Website link
- Social links
- Opening hours
- P.IVA
- Website content
- Number and score of reviews

How did I get the data
I collected the data by setting up a scraper service over Google Maps using Playwright, which ran for over a month. In addition to the Google Maps data, I scraped websites of local businesses that had a website listed on Google Maps to extract as much information as possible.
